Anaesthesia is the use of medicines and techniques to keep you pain-free during surgery or procedures. It is remarkably safe in modern Indian hospitals with trained anaesthetists, but it is a real medical event — and a pre-operative conversation with the anaesthetist matters as much as with the surgeon.

Rehabilitation is the process of regaining function after illness, injury, or surgery — with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, psychologists, and rehabilitation doctors. In India, rehab is widely under-used and under-delivered; yet it is one of the single most effective, lowest-risk medical interventions in many conditions.

Critical care (ICU care) is intensive monitoring and support for patients with life-threatening illness — severe infections, major trauma, heart attack, stroke, organ failure, post-major-surgery, obstetric emergencies, paediatric emergencies. Indian ICUs save many lives, but the experience can be overwhelming for patients and families.

Plastic surgery covers reconstructive procedures (burns, trauma, cleft lip/palate, cancer, congenital differences, hand surgery) and cosmetic procedures (aesthetic). Both require a properly qualified plastic surgeon — the clearest safety question is training and credentials, not price.

After surgery, the first few days to weeks decide much of how well you recover. Good pain control, early movement, careful wound care, and knowing the red flags prevent most avoidable complications — wound infection, blood clots (DVT/PE), chest infections, constipation, and medication errors.

Organ donation saves lives — but India has a severe shortage of donated organs. A single deceased donor can save up to 8 lives and improve the lives of many more.

Surgery is a major medical event — and an informed patient is a safer patient. A few simple rules can save lives and prevent avoidable complications: know the diagnosis, understand the alternatives, ask about risks, optimise health before, follow instructions afterwards, and watch for red flags.
